How we compared

We sampled eight pubs and priced dishes from their official menu PDFs on jdwetherspoon.com, checked 24 October 2026: Yate, Glasgow, Westminster (London), Heathrow Terminal 5 (airport), Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Belfast. Every price below is labelled: incl. soft drink where the menu price includes a soft drink, no drink where the dish never includes a drink or the pub prints no drink price. Heathrow Terminal 5 prints no drink-included prices at all, so it is compared only on the food-only basket. Premiums are measured against the average of the five regional pubs (Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Belfast); Yate is shown separately as the cheapest sampled pub.

The short version: on drink-included dishes, the 10-dish basket costs £89.34 at Yate and £120.32 in Westminster — central London is £22.30 (22.8%) above the regional average of £98.02. On food-only items, Heathrow Terminal 5 totals £46.15, which is £11.43 (32.9%) above the regional average of £34.72. Everywhere else sampled, the baskets land within 30p of their regional averages.

Wetherspoon does not charge one national price. Every pub’s menu is printed with its own prices, so this guide sampled eight pubs and priced the same dishes at each, from their official menu PDFs on jdwetherspoon.com, checked 24 October 2026. There are two baskets, because Heathrow Terminal 5 cannot be compared on drink-included dishes: its menu contains no drink-included wording and no soft-drink/alcoholic-drink columns, so every Heathrow price is food-only. The main basket below therefore covers seven pubs, and a separate food-only basket covers all eight.

The main basket at seven pubs

Fish and chips, two burgers, two pizzas, a chicken bowl, a lasagne, nachos and a bowl of chips. Where a dish is sold with a drink included, the table uses the soft-drink price; nachos and chips never include a drink, so their prices are food-only at every pub. The classic cheese burger is a standard burger-section listing at every pub: at Yate it costs £7.49 with a soft drink in the standard burger section, the same price the pub’s front-page feature panel repeats.

Totals sum the soft-drink price for drink-included dishes and the food-only price for nachos and chips. Yate is cheapest overall; Westminster is dearest overall and dearest on every dish in this basket.

Cheapest and dearest

Cheapest is the Yate pub at £89.34, which is £8.68 (8.9%) below the regional average of £98.02. Dearest on drink-included dishes is Westminster at £120.32. The five regional pubs sit almost on top of each other: Belfast £97.89, Glasgow and Manchester £97.91 each, Birmingham and Cardiff £98.19 each — a 30p spread.

The London premium

The Moon Under Water in Westminster — a central London pub off Leicester Square — totals £120.32, which is £22.30 (22.8%) above the regional average. The premium is not one dish: Westminster is dearest on every dish in the basket, from chips (+50p over Yate) to the classic cheese burger (+£3.80, £7.49 to £11.29, both prices including a soft drink). London’s drink split is wider too: where Yate and Glasgow add £1.53 for an alcoholic drink instead of a soft drink, Westminster adds £1.62. Small plates barely move in London — wings, bites and strips serves are still £3.15 there — so the premium lands on mains, not on snacks. On food-only items the London premium is much smaller: £37.66 against a regional average of £34.72 (+8.5%).

The airport premium, like for like

Heathrow Terminal 5 cannot be put in the table above: its prices include no drink, so comparing them with drink-included prices would mix two bases. The food-only basket below compares the same basis everywhere — dishes that never include a drink, printed at all eight pubs.

All prices food-only. The Crown Rivers at Heathrow Terminal 5 totals £46.15, which is £11.43 (32.9%) above the regional average of £34.72, and dearest on 7 of the 8 dishes — the side salad is the exception, at £2.40 against £2.59 elsewhere. Airport menus are also thinner: the Heathrow menu has no breakfast, no curries, no desserts, no jacket potatoes and no kids menu at all, and it prints no soft-drink/alcoholic-drink split, so there is no drink deal to soften the bill.

What the regional cluster means

Five pubs in five cities — Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Belfast — total within 30p of each other on the main basket (£97.89–£98.19) and within 28p on the food-only basket (£34.55–£34.83), and most of their dual prices match Glasgow exactly. That does not mean every regional pub charges the same: these are five sampled pubs, and a pub in the same city could sit above or below them. But it does mean the England-vs-Scotland gap in our earlier comparison is a Yate-vs-everywhere gap as much as an England-vs-Scotland one: Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff match Glasgow, not Yate, on drink-included dishes. And Yate’s cheapness is concentrated there: on food-only items Yate is joint-cheapest at £34.55, just £0.17 below the regional average, so the sides cost essentially the same everywhere outside London and the airports. Belfast is the partial exception that proves the menus differ by nation: its dual prices mostly match Glasgow, but its breakfasts are the Ulster fry family instead of the GB breakfasts. For the price you will actually pay, your own pub’s menu — downloadable as a PDF, as our menu PDF guide explains — is the only authoritative source.

Questions

Which sampled pub is cheapest?

Yate, England: the 10-dish basket below costs £89.34 there, £8.68 (8.9%) below the five-pub regional average of £98.02. On food-only items Yate is joint-cheapest at £34.55, with Glasgow and Manchester, essentially at the regional average of £34.72 — so Yate’s advantage is in drink-included mains, not in sides.

Why are London Wetherspoons prices higher?

At the Westminster pub sampled, the 10-dish basket costs £120.32 — £22.30 (22.8%) above the regional average — and Westminster is dearest on every dish in that basket. On food-only items the London premium is smaller: £37.66 against a regional average of £34.72, a £2.94 (8.5%) gap. Wetherspoon sets prices pub by pub, so the only authoritative price for a London pub is that pub’s own menu or the official app for that pub.

Are airport Wetherspoons prices higher?

Yes, on a like-for-like food-only basket: the Heathrow Terminal 5 basket costs £46.15, £11.43 (32.9%) above the regional average of £34.72, and Heathrow is dearest on 7 of the 8 food-only dishes (the side salad is the exception: £2.40 at Heathrow against £2.59 elsewhere). Heathrow is not compared on drink-included dishes at all, because its menu prints no drink-included prices: every Heathrow price is food-only. Its menu is also reduced — no breakfast, curries, desserts, jacket potatoes or kids menu — and it prints no soft-drink/alcoholic-drink split.
